NRA Personal Protection Courses

**** To maximize what can be learned from these classes ALL Personal Protection Courses have the following Pre-requisite to attend:  Successful completion of an NRA Pistol course, PPITH, PPOTH or proof of shooting skills or experience in the following manner; 1) NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, 2) military DD 214 or 3) You can show evidence of mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling during a Pre-Course Assessment.

Students should bring their own defensive caliber handgun (no less than 9mm or .38 Spcl.) that is in good operating condition. Students must use a quality strong side hip holster that covers the trigger with retention or a Carry Purse along with a concealment garment for PPOTH and the Defensive Courses. You will also need 2 spare magazines or speed loaders with carry pouches, the proper number of rounds of ammunition, plus hearing and eye protection for the range activities. Limited rental of firearms, eye/ear protection, and the purchase of ammunition are available for an additional cost. Please call or email with any questions you might have about these courses.


NRA Personal Protection In the Home (PPITH)

The NRA Basic Personal Protection In the Home Course is an 8 hour course with Live Fire for law-abiding citizens that are not disqualified from possessing a firearm and are experienced shooters with the pistol experience or skills as listed in the Pre-requisites to attend. Students should expect to shoot approximately 150 rounds of ammunition. The ammunition requirements are a minimum and may be exceeded. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and how to respond to a violent in the home confrontation. You’ll learn about Federal and Florida laws related to firearms use for self-defense and about opportunities for future skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In the Home handbook and a Course Completion Certificate.

NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOTH)

The NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home Course is a course with Live Fire for law-abiding citizens that are not disqualified from possessing a firearm and are experienced shooters with the pistol experience or skills as listed in the Pre-requisites to attend. This course teaches how to avoid dangerous confrontations, levels of mental awareness, stress induced physiological changes, how to develop a proper defensive mindset, proper pistol presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions. It teaches the essentials for safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense along with skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation outside the home.

The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home is divided into two Levels (Basic and Advanced). The Level One (Basic) is a 10 hour course in the storage, carrying and Federal/Florida laws related to firearms use for self-defense and safe use of firearms effectively for personal protection outside the home. Upon successful completion of Level One, students may choose to attend Level Two (Advanced), which is an additional 5 hours of range training and teaches advanced shooting skills on the range. Approximately 300 rounds of ammunition are needed to complete both levels. The ammunition requirements are a minimum and may be exceeded. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home handbook and the appropriate Course Completion Certificates(s) upon successful completion of each section. Attendance does not guarantee passage of these courses. You must demonstrate the proper attitude, knowledge and skill set to receive one or both Certificates of completion.

Cost of Level 1 PPOTH (Basic) is $250      Cost of both Level 1 (Basic) and Level 2 (Avanced) is $400

NRA Defensive Pistol Class

The NRA Defensive Pistol Course is a 9 hour course with Live Fire for law-abiding citizens that are not disqualified from possessing a firearm and are experienced shooters with the pistol experience or skills as listed in the Pre-requisites to attend. Students should expect to shoot 150 rounds of ammunition. The ammunition requirements are a minimum and may be exceeded. The course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude to carry and use a concealed pistol safely, ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. The student will review the NRA basic gun safety rules, learn basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, proper drawing from the Holster or Carry Purse, levels of mental awareness, stress induced physiological changes and techniques needed to develop the proper defensive mindset when using a pistol for personal protection. Students will also learn the clearing of common stoppages, the use of pocket pistols, and more. Upon completion students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home handbook and an NRA Defensive Pistol Course Completion Certificate.
